Do you Trust your Body?
Your body possesses an Intelligence that far exceeds that of your intellectual mind! If you were to have a conscious thought preceding every action that is carried out by your autonomic nervous system (including pumping blood through your heart, pushing a food bolus down your intestines, and releasing hormones from your pituitary gland), you would probably die. You wouldn’t be able to sleep due to the complexity of the repair process that you’d have to govern!
Recently, I broke my foot and was told by medical doctors to restrict use of the foot and to enable the healing to happen. No doctor can regrow bone except the wise one inside! You may take for granted the self-healing capabilities of your body, yet it’s working tirelessly toward organizing the trillions of cells that carry out each of your vital functions.
Somehow an epithelial cell (skin cell) knows exactly how to act as a protective barrier while a hepatocyte (liver cell) knows how to carry out metabolism and detoxification functions. Each part of your body acts on an impulse from your Nervous System, which is the master communication system, mediating the vast Intelligence that heals you! (Some people call this intelligence the Soul or the vital Life Force).
Do you know how to listen to the messages from this Intelligence?!
In a society that values the capacities of the intellect over the more amorophous, experiential knowing that originates in your body, it is your responsibility now to rebel by trusting and revering your wise, old vessel! This starts with listening to sensation.
Often, it’s pain/symptoms or general unease in the body that causes (forces?) you to drive your awareness deeper and ask different questions. If this is the case, start by finding a sensation in your body that feels “safe” (not the epicenter of your symptomatic expression).
Let your intuition assign adjectives to the sensation you chose and track it as it changes in response to your awareness, even if this exercise may at first feel like hallucination. As an example, emotions usually last only a few minutes if processed through the body, but can last much longer when you get stuck looping in the mind (following the “story” not the sensation).
Practicing exercises like this consistently is how you begin to regain trust in your body! That way, you can live more authentically from a much Truer part of yourself.
Chiropractic care can support you in creating a body that feels safer to inhabit. By accessing and integrating bound tension stuck in the body, you’ll be better able to access the ease that belies it (as ease is the resting state of your body). It’s my great honor to witness this process in my patients! I love supporting mindful families and individuals in aligning more deeply with who they really are, as governed by the vast Intelligence that lives in the body!
